Bhanuka, a high school kid goes to a watery death under mysterious circumstances with remain unknown and unresolved. It was contract killing done at the best of the jayawardena, a shady character with powerful connections to the underworld and to the centers of political power. The reason for the murder beginning that Bhanuka is having an affair which Jayawardana’s daughter, Shehara. What makes the affair unacceptable to the girl’s father is that Bhanuka is the son of highly respected media personality who has been on the trial of Jayawardana’s underworld activities. To accept this journalist’s son as a prospective son-in-low is unthinkable to the man.
An years goes by after the boy’s death. shehara is now in Medical College, and has withdrawn into a world of silence, hardly talking to anybody and being a loner.
One a rainy night, there is a tap on Shehara’s bedroom window and Bhanuka appears through the dark. The lovers are reunited. However, the boy does not tell her why and how the disappeared. There is a covenant between them, that he would visit her in the night but she would guard it as a secret. One day, he would tell her the story.
Shehara becomes one more her ebullient self, and her mother is intrigued.
She keeps pressing her daughter for an explanation and one day Shehara tells her mothe , he is deeply disturbed. It would not be possible now to continue with there nightly meetings , and he want to her to come to the distant Kandalama tank on an appointed day, for hr to know the truth.
Shehara goes to the tank to see Bhanuka waiting for her in a boat. He invites her to come with him and promises to tell her of what happened to him, one year ago. He rows the boat with her to the middle of the tank, and there taking her in a deep embrace falls into the water. It is the exact spot where the hired killers had drowned Bhanuka.
A few days later a young couple who come to the bank see another couple on a boat in the middle of the lake.The are Shehara and Bhanuka, and on certain days they would continue to bee seen, two phantom lovers keeping an endless tryst.
This hunting love storey, very much in the tradition of myth and legend as recounted and narrated by ancient balladeers, is performed by the beautiful and delicate Chathurika Peiris as Shehara, and a sensational newcomer, Saranga Disasekara as her tragic lover. Roshan Pilapitiya the versatile young actor plays a secondary role. with some of the big stars of the Srilankan cinema, Sanath Gunatilaka and Tony Ranasinghe filling in with some impressive back-up performances.
